Summer Program Counselors

 

Description and Key Duties

 

The Dotted Line of Georgia Inc. Summer Program Counselor is a part of a team responsible for the supervision of the Children placed in their care through supporting The Dotted Line Youth Development Coordinator (TDLYDC) in every way including but not limited to carrying out the plans set forth by the TDLYDC.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe and caring environment for TDL Summer Program Participants and assistant with and Implement TDL Summer Programming activities.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and interact with TDL Summer Program Participants including but not limited to:

  • Drive or supervise during transportation of participants in official vehicles of The Dotted Line of Georgia Inc.

  • Prepare Snacks for TDL Summer Program Participants

 

This position requires active participation in games, indoor/outdoor activities including but not limited to:

  1. Teaching or assisting with lessons.

  2. Assisting with headcount and Group supervision.

  3. Supervising meals.

  4. Assisting with crafts.

  5. Assisting and participating in outdoor activities.

  6. Field trips.

  • Develop healthy relationships with TDL Summer Program Participants.

  • Provide structure and appropriate discipline under the direction of the TDLYDC

  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment through implementation of TDL Summer Program policies regarding safety and discipline.

  • Cleaning of TDL Summer Program building, vehicles and outside areas

Program Coordinator – Job Description

 

The Program Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of the youth mentoring program, which matches adult mentors with youth.

 

The Program Coordinator ensures program quality and performance related to recruiting, screening, matching, monitoring, and closing the relationship with the mentor and mentee, and communicates with the mentor, parent/guardian, and child throughout the relationship.

 

Reporting to the executive director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mentoring program, and will carry out the responsibilities of the position as defined below:

 

Duties:

 

  • Create and oversee implementation of an ongoing mentor recruitment plan, including development of an annual recruitment and quarterly activity plans, development and distribution of program marketing materials, presentations to targeted organizations, and ensuring a presence at key community events, etc.

  • Perform and oversee participant screening, training, matching, support and supervision, recognition, and closure activities

  • Develop and manage relationships with schools, training centers, and community-based organizations

  • Build a strong working relationship with our mentoring program advisory board

  • Oversee inquiry and orientation process to ensure excellent public relations and customer service

  • Manage the planning and implementation of mentor/mentee group events (e.g., bowling trips, pizza parties, end-of-year events)

  • Plan and implement recognition activities for program participants

  • Maintain and update the program’s policy and procedure manual as needed

  • Oversee program evaluation activities

    • Supervise mentoring program staff

  • Attend regional/national conferences to increase knowledge of mentoring program and best practices

  • Acquire Grants, Head Fundraisers, Complete other duties and activities as needed

 

Drivers –Job Description

 

TDL Driver’s responsibilities in addition to safe and efficient driving are:

 

Duties:

 

  • They must have people skills, be self-motivated and patient.

  • Prior to picking up Mentees, TDL transportation drivers have to prepare the companies vehicles for use. These duties can include changing oil, checking tires, washing the car, cleaning the interior and taking the vehicle in for repairs or maintenance when needed.

  • TDL transportation want to project a professional image, so vehicle upkeep is important. Additionally, TDL do not want our vehicles to break down before picking up a Mentee or when the Mentee is in our vehicle.

  • TDL transportation driver's duties entail driving Mentees to and from various locations, such as restaurants, meetings, sporting events and professional conventions.

  • TDL transportation drivers will also pick up the company's clients, prospective employees or representatives as well as perform any addition duties when not driving i.e. (Filing paperwork, office end of day clean up or errands as needed.)

 

Mentors –Job Description

 

TDL program provides a structured and trusted relationship that brings male students together with a caring instructor, staff member, or administrator together who can offer guidance, support, and encouragement. Our mentor is a teacher, guide, role model and supporter. Our mentors are dedicated to assisting our students in reaching their goals.

  • Build self-esteem

    • Acquire Grants, assist with Fundraisers, Complete other duties and activities as needed

 

Mentor's Time Commitment

  • Make a one year commitment

  • Commit to spending at least 3 hours a meeting with your mentee

  • Communicate with your mentee weekly

  • Attend an initial two-hour training session and additional training sessions twice during each year of participation in the program.

  • Attend optional mentor/mentee group events, mentor support groups, and program recognition events

 

General Mentor Requirements

  • Be a faculty, staff, or administrator of TDL

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of TDL

  • Interested in working with young people

  • Complete the application and screening process

  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments

  • Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed

  • Willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities

 

Qualifications for employment at The Dotted Line of Georgia Inc.

Must be a Male over 21 yrs of age that DOESN'T SMOKE or DRINK

  • Must be a registered voter in GA

  • Must submit driving history dating back five years

  • Must submit criminal background dating back ten years

  • Must have High School Diploma with the understanding that a Bachelor’s degree is preferred with emphasis on social work, psychology, volunteer management, and/or education

  • Two or more years experience in mentoring and youth development, working within community organizations and/or schools preferred.

  • Expert knowledge of mentoring program policies and procedures

  • Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Creativity and flexibility in assuming significant responsibility

  • Experience working in racially, ethnically, and social economically diverse urban communities
